Haflinger boiled wool & felt slippers - warm & breathable at the same time

What all Haflinger slippers have in common is that they are made of high-quality natural materials. Most of them are made from pure new wool without artificial fibers. There are two common methods of further processing the wool, namely into boiled wool or into wool felt. Both processes retain the heat-regulating, breathable properties of genuine wool. Thus, Haflinger boiled wool and felt slippers provide excellent protection from cold without causing sweaty feet after prolonged wear. Even in milder temperatures, the slippers are comfortable to wear, as excess heat and moisture are simply absorbed and released into the air.

So-called boiled wool is produced by rubbing natural wool fibers together using heat and moisture. This makes the material more dense while retaining its natural softness. Therefore, Haflinger boiled wool slippers are very comfortable to wear even on bare skin. Boiled wool is also slightly flexible, allowing it to adapt to wider feet as you wear them. The Haflinger boiled wool slippers 'Alaska' (better known as 'HAFLINGER AS Slippers' in the US) for example have been a popular choice among our customers for years. Creating wool felt is a similar process, only that even more pressure is applied while rubbing the fibers together. Haflinger open-heel & closed-heel slippers suitable for any preferences

Haflinger slippers come in all kinds of shapes including both open-heel & closed-heel variants. Open-heel slippers either have a very flat or no edge at the back, allowing for a very quick & easy slip-on from a standing position. Closed-heel slippers on the other hand provide maximum stability and are the perfect choice if your feet tend to slip out of the back of your slippers. Originally designed as extra-thick socks with sewn-on soles, they have always been specifically designed for cold winter days. The relatively lightweight Haflinger 'Everest' slippers typically have wool felt uppers and feature removable insoles made of cork and soft foam. In contrast to the 'Blizzard' and 'Grizzly' slippers, they have a more thin and thereby flexible rubber sole, allowing for very natural and unhindered motions of the feet.

The 'Flair' slippers from Haflinger ensure an incomparably soft feel all around the feet. Not only is wool felt (or boiled wool with some models) used as the upper material, their outsoles are also made of genuine wool felt. In combination with the firmly integrated latex footbeds, this provides particularly soft step cushioning. Thanks to their soft felt soles, Haflinger's 'Flair' slippers also have the advantage of being particularly low-noise and gentle on sensitive floorings. Stability is provided by the very thin, barely visible latex coating under their felt soles. These leather slippers, of which the Haflinger 'Travel' is the most well-known, are ideal for all year round thanks to their breathable leather uppers. As genuine leather is water-repellent as well, these slippers can also be worn outdoors, especially those with a firm rubber sole. There are also more lightweight variants available, the Haflinger 'Everest Softi' might be the most popular example. In contrast to the very sturdy clogs (who typically combine a thick, anatomical footbed with an equally firm rubber sole), these feature removable insoles and more flexible rubber soles.

Haflinger slippers with footbed

Almost all Haflinger slippers have footbeds included. A distinction can be made between models with permanently integrated, non-removable footbeds and Haflinger slippers with removable footbeds. With the latter, the footbed can be easily removed by hand and replaced with your own insoles.

The Haflinger 'Flair' slippers have firmly intergrated latex footbeds that provide very soft cushioning. In order to provide a supple skin sensation, these footbeds are also covered with a thin insole made of all-natural wool felt.

Just like their summery sandals, Haflinger's popular 'Grizzly' slippers feature firmly integrated, anatomically shaped cork-latex-footbeds. These offer very pronounced arch support and are thereby particularly suitable to provide relief for heavily strained feet. They continue to adapt to the contours of your feet as they are worn. The footbed of the Haflinger 'Grizzly Michel' is an exception: while also an anatomical cork footbed, it is removable, making the 'Michel' the only 'Grizzly' slipper that is also suitable for your own insoles.

Haflinger slippers for insoles

The Haflinger 'Blizzard' and 'Everest' slippers, on the other hand, all have removable footbeds that can be easily replaced with your own insoles if required. With the 'Blizzard' models such as the popular 'Credo', this removable footbed is made entirely of soft foam, resulting in particularly gentle step cushioning.

The removable 'Everest' footbeds are also made of cork, although they are much thinner than the permanently integrated cork footbeds that are found within the 'Grizzly' series. While also providing a basic level of arch support (albeit not as pronounced), they are particularly lightweight in order to enable very nimble-footed, natural movements.

Haflinger soft sole & hard sole slippers

Haflinger not only uses different upper materials for their slippers, but also produces different outsoles. Most models either have rubber soles, which can be further divided into firm or flexible variants, or soft felt soles.

The firm rubber soles of Haflinger's 'Grizzly' slippers are particularly suitable to also be worn outside the house. They are very hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant as well as waterproof. On top of that, they also have a pronounced tread pattern in order to prevent slipping on all kinds of floorings.

Haflinger's 'Everest' slippers also feature soles made of rubber. However, these are not solid, but light and flexible. They hardly restrict your feet in their natural movements, offering light-footed wearing comfort. Thanks to their anti-slip profiles and the water-repellent nature of rubber, the 'Everest' outsoles can also be worn on wet tiles or the patio if necessary. In contrast to the 'Grizzly' soles, however, they are generally designed for pure indoor use.

The soft felt soles that are found within the 'Flair' series and most slipper boots, on the other hand, are designed to be exclusively worn inside the house. They are particularly low-noise and also very gentle to sensitive floorings. In combination with the latex footbeds from the 'Flair' series, they also provide very soft cushioning. Thanks to their barely visible latex coatings, they also have a basic slip-inhibitory effect. For more slippery surfaces, however, we clearly recommend slippers with rubber soles.

Haflinger's 'Blizzard' slippers feature very firm, water-repellent and slip-resistant crepe soles, also known as shell soles. Just like Haflinger's 'Grizzly' soles, these are fully suitable for outdoor use. They also have a particularly large surface area, making them highly suitable as seniors' slippers, as they provide very high traction and stability, thus preventing the risk of falling.

Can you wash Haflinger slippers?

Due to its breathable nature, natural wool automatically releases unpleasant odors into the air. This self-cleansing effect is all the more pronounced when exposed to fresh air outdoors. Minor soilings can also be easily removed with a dampened cloth, as the dense structure of wool fibers prevents most dirt from getting deep into the surface structure of the material.

All Haflinger slippers with felt soles are suitable for the washing machine, i.e. all the 'Flair' slippers and most of their slipper boots. We recommend using a wool wash cycle at 30°C (86°F) without using fabric softener, as this can impair the breathable properties of the wool. The slippers should not be put into the tumble dryer afterwards, but rather be dried in the open air and stuffed with newspaper.

All other Haflinger slippers, i.e. those with cork footbeds, rubber soles or models made of shearling or leather, must NOT be cleaned in the washing machine. We recommend cleaning these with a dampened cloth.
